TexPIRG Citizen Agenda

We want your feedback

TexPIRG’s greatest asset is our citizen members. Citizen members like you allow us to stay independent of government or corporate money, so we can take on tough issues that others shy away from confronting.

And our members provide TexPIRG with the political backing we need to take on powerful, well-heeled special interests by communicating with legislators on issues they care about.

So when we choose what issues our staff will devote time and energy to, we try to pick issues that you care about. And we do our best to use your contributions in the most effective ways possible, hoping you’ll see TexPIRG as a great investment for your time and money.

We’re proud of the job we’ve done on both fronts: not only have we worked on issues that have affected tens of thousands of Texans—such as our campaign to protect our communities from refinery threats (see page 1 for more on that)—we’re getting results, as we did when we convinced the Legislature to adopt strong measures to fight identity theft.

But as TexPIRG plans for the future, we want to know what you think. If you were in our shoes, deciding how to allocate TexPIRG’s resources, what choices would you make? What issues would you like to see us tackle? What ideas do you have that might make us even more successful at achieving social change? To get you thinking, here are a few questions we’d love to hear your response to:

What are the most important issues facing Texas right now?

What TexPIRG campaigns have you found most important?

What TexPIRG campaigns have you found least important?

How can TexPIRG do a better job of keeping you informed?

Does TexPIRG give you enough opportunities to get involved?

I hope you’ll take a minute to share your thoughts with us, either by e-mail or regular mail. You can reach us at by email or drop us a letter at our address below. We’re excited to hear your ideas on how TexPIRG can do an even better job making a difference on the issues you care about.
